Which one sounds like you?
Hard water can leave skin feeling dry or uncomfortable after washing.
Many people find that soft water feels gentler on the skin. If you or a family member has eczema or another skin condition, speak to a healthcare professional for medical advice.
Tired of cleaning taps, kettles and shower screens?
Limescale can reduce efficiency and contribute to wear in water-heating systems and household appliances.
Worried about what limescale is doing inside your boiler and appliances?
Limescale can build up on heat-transfer surfaces, reducing heating efficiency and contributing to wear.
The real cost isn’t just the limescale you can see. Energy efficiency, appliance wear, cleaning and maintenance can all add up.
Limescale on heat-transfer surfaces can make your boiler work harder. A build-up of scale can reduce heat-transfer efficiency and increase energy use.
Limescale can contribute to wear in washing machines, dishwashers, kettles and other water-using appliances, potentially bringing forward replacement costs.
Hard water can require more cleaning and washing products, while limescale means more time and products spent removing deposits.
Hard water affects homes across the UK, with severity varying by region and local geology. Limescale can build up in heating systems and appliances, increase cleaning and detergent use, and add to household costs over time. Your exact water hardness depends on your postcode.
Use our postcode checker to see your local water hardness.
The longer you live with hard water, the more those costs can add up.

Hard water affects homes across the UK. Limescale can build up on showers, taps, kettles and other water-using appliances. See the difference soft water can make.
Less new limescale buildup. Cleaner fittings and fewer blocked nozzles caused by scale. A simple clean can remove existing scale. Soft water helps prevent new limescale buildup.
Less limescale in your kettle. Easier cleaning and less frequent descaling.
Less limescale staining means less scrubbing. Keep your glass clearer with a simple wipe-down.

After living with Oxfordshire’s hard water for years and seeing how traditional water-softener sales often worked, we’d had enough. The product is good. The category is real. The way it was being sold wasn’t.
We started Purer Aqua to do this the way we’d want to be sold to ourselves. Transparent pricing on the website. A 45-minute home survey, not a sales pitch. A fixed quote you take home and think about. And managed salt delivery, so you never have to remember to lift another 25kg bag of salt into the car.
No pressure. No gimmicks. No moving prices. Just properly installed water softeners from local people who pick up the phone.
We started in Oxfordshire — and we’re building Purer Aqua to bring the same local-first service model to homes across the UK.

No made-up testimonials. No cherry-picked quotes. Just feedback from real Purer Aqua customers.
Hover any town for hardness readings. Much of Oxfordshire is in the hard-to-very-hard range, with many areas around or above 300 ppm.
Indicative hardness readings. Local water hardness can vary by postcode and water supply zone. Check your postcode for your property’s current reading.
No. Our softeners are non-electric and operate using your mains water pressure, so they don’t need a power socket. They’re designed to fit neatly under a standard kitchen sink.
Most installations are completed in one morning. Your installer will carry out the installation, connect the system, complete the necessary checks and commission the softener before leaving. We’ll also show you how everything works.
We take care of keeping your softener supplied with salt. Salt is delivered directly to your home on a managed schedule based on your household’s usage, so you don’t have to remember to buy or carry heavy bags yourself.
Your driver also tops up the system and carries out a quick check when they deliver.
Your installation comes with a 10-year protection arrangement. You’ll receive your certificate by email after installation, giving you documented protection for the covered installation and equipment.
Full terms, conditions and exclusions are provided with your guarantee documentation.
You may notice a difference, but softened water is still perfectly normal household water. Softening removes the calcium and magnesium minerals responsible for hardness and limescale.
If you prefer unsoftened drinking water, we can discuss the appropriate drinking-water arrangement during your survey.
It depends on your household and your local water hardness. A larger household using more water, or a home in a very hard-water area, will generally use more salt than a smaller household.
That’s why we use your household size and local water hardness when assessing your requirements. Our managed salt delivery means you don’t need to calculate it yourself.
Because a scale inhibitor isn’t the same as a water softener.
A scale inhibitor is designed to help reduce the formation or adhesion of limescale. A water softener actually removes the calcium and magnesium ions that cause water hardness through ion exchange.
If you want genuinely softened water — rather than simply treating the effects of hard water — a softener is the relevant solution.
We believe the important comparison is the complete installed cost and ongoing service — not just the headline price.
Purer Aqua publishes a £1,695 standard installed price, so customers know what they’re paying upfront. We also provide a written quotation, managed salt delivery and ongoing aftercare.
Take the quote home, compare what’s included, and decide in your own time.
